I Refuse: Memories of a Vietnam War Objector

Simons describes his objections to the Vietnam War, detailing his emotions and convictions during that time

"Heartbreaking, vivid, fiery, revelatory, modest- such words occur in reading I REFUSE. All honor to those whose tongue can still form a NO that confounds the powers. Who refuse, and pay up. Donald Simons is of their number, to his perennial credit."
-Daniel Berrigan-

"A book that needed to be written, a chapter of history which must not be forgotten. A gripping personal account of the struggle for individual conscience in a deathly bureaucratic system."
-Stephen M. Kohn, author of Jailed For Peace

"I REFUSE reads like an engrossing mystery novel. What will this clean-cut, sensitive, mainstream young man do--and what will happen to him--as he weaves his way through a series of ups and downs after being drafted for Vietnam? I couldn't stop reading it to find out what would happen next."
-David Dellinger-

I REFUSE is a carefully-chronicled and moving account of one man's resistance to participation in the Vietnam War. It illustrates the difficulties encountered by young Americans who would not kill, as well as their unsung heroism.
-Lawrence S. Wittner, author of Rebels Against War
