Item description from seller

THE REGIMENT THAT SAVED THE CAPITAL BY WILLIAM J. ROEHRENBECK 1961 HC DJ MYLAR. This book is the story of the New York Regiment (the Seventh New York Volunteers) who were the first full regiment to respond to President Lincoln s call for troops to protect Washington as the Capital was exposed after the start of the Civil War in 1861. This small hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ½ inches, 244 pages) was published by A.S. Barnes in some association with Thomas Yoseloff of New York and London. The boards are tan in color with black titles on the spine and the book is protected by a colorful pictorial dust jacket, itself encased in a mylar sheath. There is a sixteen-page spread of illustrations after page 124, mostly vintage b&w photos and some drawings from Harper s Weekly. Condition: This book is in very good condition, largely due to the mylar sheath that was added to it. The dust jacket shows some wear at the corners and spine tips but this has presumably been arrested with the application of the mylar. The boards are clean and bright with a small smudge of soiling on the rear board. Inside, there is a series of penciled notations of the bookseller on the front endpaper. Those are the only marks I found in the book (and these could be easily erased). The binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.
