A mid nineteenth century copy of the Smith brothers' book of parodies. With a portrait frontispiece of the Smith brothers. This book has a collection of 21 parodies of authors of the time. They was incredibly successful and still stand today as the most widely popular parodies ever published in England. James and Horace Smith parodied several popular authors for their Rejected Addresses. James in particular parodied Wordsworth, Southey, Coleridge and Crabbe. Horace parodied George Gordon Byron, Thomas Moore, Walter Scott and Bowles. In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to spine. Externally, smart with rubbing to the spine, joints and boards. Rubbing particularly to the head and tail of spine. Loss to spine label. Some marks to boards. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Gift inscription to recto of front free endpaper, 'Annie Something to Look at on the voyage Richard'. Internally, firmly bound. Flower pressed to page 32. Tidemark to bottom outer marginal corner pages 37 onwards, becomes darker towards the end, does not affect the text. Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Very Good.
