About this Item
Unrecorded map of northern Italy. Very good condition, previously folded, one chip along a fold, light stains at far left. Full color by province/country. Datable to 1859 by the assignment of Lombardy and Venice to Austria, but before the transfer of Nice from Sardinia to France in 1860. Shows to Piombino in the south, the Rhone River in the west, the Adriatic and Trieste in the east and Lucerne and Dijon to the north. There is a pen-and-ink style drawing of troops, presumably Italian, at the bottom and population tables at the top. There are no identifying credits of any sort on this map. It is undoubtedly either English or American, though possibly constructed by non-English speakers owing to some of the place names, e.g. Lake of Geneva for Lake Geneva, State of the Church for Papal States, etc. Seller Inventory # m00872
