Ce parcours pluriel s'attache à une histoire du village d'Ancien Régime, dans ses liens avec le sacré ; le religieux et le civil étaient alors étroitement imbriqués. Il aborde le thème de l'organisation des multiples espaces cultuels de l'héritage chrétien où s'élaborent des systèmes de représentation - dispositifs décoratifs et langages figuratifs -, des fonctions sociales et des enjeux de pouvoir. Entre l'intime et le collectif, il permet ainsi de prendre la mesure des évolutions et des permanences qui rythment, chargent d'espérance le temps humain, en un monde de la millénaire expérience des règles de nature et de culture où se donner les sûretés de vivre, c'était avant tout relier la Terre au Ciel. Un travail photographique, destiné à proposer un parcours en miroir des oeuvres, accompagne cet ouvrage patrimonial. Mary-Laetitia Gerval a photographié les monuments avec un long temps de pose : statues, retables, ex-voto, intérieurs de chapelles sont saisis dans leur réalité multiforme et animés par la photographie qui en revisite l'accès.
