Ce tome XIX contient le texte du troisi�me volume de De la Religion, consacr� aux �l�ments constitutifs du polyth�isme sacerdotal et du polyth�isme ind�pendant de la direction des pr�tres (livres VI et VII) et dans le livre VIII � une analyse des po�mes hom�riques. Nous donnons le texte publi� par Constant en 1827 avec, dans l’apparat critique, les variantes des manuscrits datables entre 1825 et 1827. Les textes compl�mentaires reproduisent les mat�riaux manuscrits de la m�me �poque qui n’ont pu �tre int�gr�s dans l’apparat parce que les divergences textuelles �taient trop importantes ou parce que Constant les a �cart�es de son volume. A cela s’ajoutent des documents de travail (suites d’id�es, notes bibliographiques comment�es, notes de lecture) qui jettent une lumi�re vive sur la composition parfois difficile de ce volume.

L’introduction analyse dans sa premi�re partie la place de la religion dans la pens�e politique de Constant, et notamment le r�le des diff�rents mod�les qu’il d�gage dans les livres VI et VII et retrace dans la seconde partie le travail de la r�daction extr�mement accident� et difficile de ce volume.
