Quarto. 956 pages, indexed (the last 8 pages are the Index). Hardcover rebound or re-covered in modern full black leather. Light to moderate wear to the contemporary leather. (It appears as though black leather was wrapped around the earlier binding). New endpapers. The text block is sound, and the text is foxed. The book is illustrated with 30 full page plates, including a frontis and an engraved title page. A number of the full page plates actually have 4 images per page. Of the plates, 28 of the 30 are hand-colored (including the frontis and engraved title page). Two plates are not colored. The text also contains 12 smaller text illustrations in black and white. THE PLATES ARE DIFFERENT THAN THOSE THAT APPEAR IN THE PICART WORK. This work appears to collate complete. A scarce work. Currently we find no other copies online. We have found no published auction records for this work, and the earliest edition we find on Worldcat is 1828, listing the authors as Robert L. Huish, Bernard Picart, and Colin Mackenzie. The 1828 edition (with the same pagination) is listed as an abridgment of the Picart work.…

Store description
Pages Past is a small used and antiquarian bookshop holding 10,000-15,000 volumes. We are located a few blocks from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Most of our books are hardback, although we have a few bookcases of paperbacks with recent fiction and classic literature represented. We also have a fairly good collection of Eastern Philosophy & Religion (Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism) as well as New Age. Most of these are recent paperbacks in nice condition. We have a good collection of antiquarian books in the fields of Americana, old leather bound books, and early religious and scholarly books. Shop hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. We're closed on Sundays. We are always interested in buying quality books in very good condition.…
