Remapping China at the East-West Intersection, composed predominantly from back copies of Critical Arts, draws on the rich reservoir of studies that map a diverse range of research on Chinese literature, art and culture at the intersection of East-West encounters. This compilation offers a comprehensive exploration of Chinese cultural studies through the lens of global dialogism and intercultural exchange. Structured into four thematic sections―Overview, Chinese Narratives, Chinese Art, and China and New Media―the book brings together twenty scholarly articles that collectively examine the complexities and nuances of Chinese culture in a global context.

The overview section sets the stage by discussing the scope, methodology, and perspectives of cultural studies from an interhemispherical viewpoint. It is followed by the Chinese narratives section, in which scholars critically engage with traditional Chinese narrative forms and their reception in Western contexts. The next section on Chinese art focuses on the intersection of traditional and contemporary Chinese art forms. Finally, the China and New Media section addresses the impact of digital technologies on Chinese culture. Through these diverse perspectives, this book not only contributes to ongoing academic discourses but also deepens the understanding of China’s cultural heritage and its evolving role in the global context.

This volume re-presents for an international audience a set of theories, methodologies, and studies that have been both shaped by and have themselves influenced global trends.
