For thirteen long years, he dreamed of the family that would eventually provide him with a loving home. But for young Troy Duffy that dream never became a reality.
Now, as he reaches the end of his tenure at the orphanage where he came of age, Troy vows to do something extraordinary with his life. He hopes to attend college and become a fighter pilot—with a little help and encouragement from the orphanage’s head, Monsignor Kelly.
For Troy, this is just the beginning of a long and remarkable journey—one that will see him through top honors at the United States Naval Academy, into the jungles of Vietnam, and up against surprising adversity upon returning home from the horrors of war. With fearless determination, he finds himself facing countless tests of his bravery and strength in an increasingly antiwar society until he finally finds a new safe haven he can call home.
With its captivating and heartfelt prose, The Remarkable Orphan is an inspirational tale of one man who has managed to overcome the greatest obstacles life could possibly throw his way and become a hero’s hero that readers of all ages and backgrounds can look up to.
