(8 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches). Half-title. 72pp. Period blue paper wrappers. Provenance: Sir John Gladstone (1764-1851, inscribed "from the author" on the half title, inscribed "Fasque" at the head of the front wrapper) Inscribed by the author. Lieutenant General Alexander Dirom was a British military commander who served in Barbados, Jamaica and India. He is remembered both as a military commander and an agriculturist, with his most notable contribution being identifying the importance of salt in animal diets, which led to the widespread use of "salt-licks" from around 1800. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Not in Kress. Seller Inventory # 27381
