I Remember it Well: The Diaries, Recollections and Art of Three Generations Over Three Centuries

Among much else, in Part One, my paternal grandmother records memories of meeting every sovereign from Queen Victoria to our present Queen.

Part Two gives a light-hearted account of my grandfather's travels in Spain and Morocco in 1887 along with two close friends.

My maternal grandmother in Part Three gives fascinating insights into life in many of the larger country houses towards the end of the nineteenth century.

In Part Four my father describes how he reached his posting to India in 1908 via the recently opened Trans-Siberian Railway and his brother's gunboat HMS Bramble, 500 miles inland up the Yangtze River.

In Part Five, along with his spaniel and his friend Archie Sterling, my father climbed to over 17,600 feet in the Himalayas in search of snow leopard, bear and such other species that they might find in that inhospitable terrain.

Finally in Part Six I record among much else, fishing dramas in Norway and Northumberland, the rigours od the Brigade Squad at the Guards Depot at Caterham, dining with Dr Hastings Banda, dancing with the Queen, bird watching with Lord Alanbrooke and the privilege of discussing the Abdication with on of those most closely involved.
