Margaret was Alexis's mother and advocate for twenty-nine years.

Professionally, Margaret taught literature and writing at both the collegiate and high school levels for thirteen years.

After she left teaching, Margaret became an award-winning marketing and public relations professional. In the not-for-profit world, she was vice president of a national cancer research center, an executive consultant for marketing and fundraising, and the founding executive director of the Judith Ann Griese Foundation for Grieving Children and Families.

Margaret and her husband David, a commerical architect and founder of Allis Ranch Winery, live on a conservation preserve in Sedalia, Colorado.
