Remembering and Forgetting (Classic Reprint)

How we remember and what we forget shapes our sense of self
This book explores how memory works, why memories fade, and how dreams reveal hidden mental processes. Drawing on vivid cases and classic ideas, it examines how images, sensations, and meanings interact to form recall, and why certain thoughts slip away while others endure.

From everyday perception to the deeper workings of dreams, the text shows how memory is built, stored, and sometimes distorted. It offers clear explanations of concepts like imagery, condensation, and the way unconscious factors influence what we remember. Readers will see how attention, postures, and even creative thinking play a role in what stays with us and what does not.

• Plain explanations of memory, forgetting, and the role of dreams in remembering.

• How imagery and meaning interact to shape recall and learning.

• Examples of how psychological theories explain everyday memory moments.

• Connections between perception, attention, and long‑term memory that affect practice and understanding.

Ideal for readers curious about why memories last, what makes us forget, and how dreams illuminate mental processes.
