Remembering Simone

A Story of Love Remembered“I was already drunk when I met Simone, even though it was only eleven in the morning” begins this novel of passion and politics. Jim is a lonesome biologist studying the habits of tropical moths to maintain his student deferment, desperate to avoid being drafted into the war in Vietnam. Simone, a brash American girl helping at a mission in a Guatemalan Indian village, seems to offer nothing more than a casual affair, an escape from the dreary routine of his research. As their commitment deepens, both find themselves drawn into increasing danger in a revolution torn country, as the secrets of her past and his research reveal the darker side of what seemed an innocent interlude.“In his third book, Swetnam has turned from writing mysteries set in the ancient Mayan world to a contemporary novel examining the intensity, and risks, of life in modern Guatemala.”Carla Dietz author of The Key
