Synopsis

The book alternates between Tuấn's childhood memories, his year spent in the refugee camps, and reflections on his current life in Saigon.

About the Author

Tuan Phan is a Vietnamese American teaching English Literature in Saigon. He left Vietnam in 1986 by boat with his family as part of a wave of refugees. In America, he spent his childhood learning English and forgetting his mother tongue. He is now back in his birth country, relearning his first language, teaching literature, and writing.
