Missing original slip cases. A lovely limited edition of a work originally printed in 1881. Very light rubbing to covers. Bindings tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Bell recounts his experiences in Southern California during the mid-19th century, focusing on his time as a member of the Los Angeles Rangers, a militia formed to combat crime in the region. The work vividly describes the lawlessness, violence, and transformation of Los Angeles during its early American period, including stories of gunfights, public hangings, and encounters with notorious figures.
