Remote Sensing: Practical Exercises on Remote Sensing in Archeology (Classic Reprint)

Hands-on remote sensing for archaeology students and professionals

This practical guide offers step-by-step exercises that train you to use aerial photos and satellite imagery in archaeological research. It covers core concepts like scales, bearings, parallax, and photo interpretation, with real-world activities you can perform in class or on your own. The book blends photography basics with field-ready methods for mapping, site prediction, and resource evaluation.

The material walks you through plotting flight plans, measuring distances and areas, and identifying features on photos. It connects the theory of remote sensing to concrete tasks you’ll perform with prints, overlays, and Landsat imagery, helping you build a usable workflow from data to conclusions.

• Learn to read topographic and aerial photographs with practical exercises and checklists.
• Practice determining scale, height, distances, and bearings from imagery.
• Explore Level I land-use mapping and site prediction using real datasets.
• Work with stereo viewing, parallax measurements, and image interpretation tools.

Ideal for readers of archaeology, field survey, and remote sensing courses who want hands-on, skill-building guidance.
