Toledano Binding Style 8. Originally published in the UK in 1873, it reached its present format only in the Third Edition, 1888. Fine in a Fine Bro-dart-protected Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with charcoal gray topstain, and no markings of any kind. The Binding is full red cloth, color uniform throughout, the Front board has the Rockwell Kent torchbearer within gold outline, within which a smaller enclosed rectangle in black contains the title and author in gilt, with the design repeated brightly on the spine, unmarked Rockwell Kent endpapers in gray and all corners square and sharp. The Bro-dart encased Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, and fully intact with the original price ($1.25) intact on the front flap. See the photos. xxxi, 199, [vi] pages. 5" x 7 1/4". Introduction by Arthur Symons and 1873 Preface by the author. Catalogue at the rear of the book and on the inverse side of the Dust Jacket. Considered to be the manifesto of the Aestheticism movement of the late 19th century, the author used his studies of Botticelli, Mirandola, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Giorgione, and others to advocate for a life devoted to the observation of fleeting beauty. "Every moment some form grows perfect in hand or face; some tone on the hills or the sea is choicer than the rest; some mood of passion or insight or intellectual excitement is irresistibly real and attractive for us, ? for that moment only.".
