About the Authors
Dr. Maegaard is Director of the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, an institute for the development and implementation of renewable energies located in Denmark. The center has, under his leadership, provided transfer of renewable energy technology to many countries. Dr. Maegaard was appointed the first president of the World Wind Energy Institute, first president of the World Wind Energy Association, and has served as a Renewable Energy Adviser to the President of Mali. For over three decades, Dr. Maegaard has been a director, organizer, and speaker at numerous international seminars, workshops and conferences. He has authored numerous reports, books, and articles in Danish, English, German and Japanese on renewables and sustainable development.
Bent Sørensen is professor emeritus in physics at Roskilde University, Denmark). He has held academic positions at University of California in Berkeley, Yale University, The National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden (US), Kyoto University (Japan), University of Grenoble (France) and University of New South Wales (Australia) and served as advisor for the OECD, the Japanese and Australian governments, and various UN agencies, including as lead author the IPCC working group on climate change mitigation. He has published nearly 1000 scientific articles and many books, including two volumes on hydrogen and fuel cells. He served as chairman of the Danish Energy Agency’s Solar Energy and Hydrogen Energy Committees, and received prizes such as the Australian-European Award for Eminent Scholars (1982) and the European Solar Prize (2002).
Dr. da Rosa taught the perennially popular Renewable Energy course at Stanford University for over 30 years. Former Chairman of the Brazilian National Research Council, Director of the Aeronautical Technical Center, and founder of Brazilian NASA, he also served as the CEO of a tech start-up, Chairman of the Board for a microprocessor manufacturer, and as a member of Siemens Corporation’s scientific advisory board.
Paul Breeze is a journalist and freelance science and technology writer and consultant in the United Kingdom. He has specialised in power generation technology for the past 30 years. In addition to writing Power Generation Technologies, Second Edition, he has contributed to journals and newspapers such as The Financial Times and The Economist and has written a range of technical management reports covering all the aspects of power generation, transmission and distribution.
Prof. Soteris Kalogirou is a Professor in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering
and Materials Science and Engineering at
the Cyprus University of Technology. In
addition to his Ph.D., he holds a D.Sc. and is
internationally recognized for his pioneering
contributions to renewable energy. He is a
Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences,
a Founding Member of the Cyprus Academy
of Sciences, Letters and Arts, a Member of
Academia Europaea, and a Fellow of the
International Artificial Intelligence Industry
Alliance. For over 35 years, he has conducted
research in solar energy, with expertise
encompassing solar collectors, solar water
heating, solar steam generation, desalination, photovoltaics, geothermal energy, and
absorption cooling. He has published extensively,
authoring numerous journal articles,
book chapters, and conference papers. His
books Solar Energy Engineering: Processes and
Systems and Thermal Solar Desalination: Methods and Systems (Academic Press, Elsevier)
are widely recognized references in the field.
He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of
Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.
