Report, 1908: Also Report on Design of Quebec Bridge (Classic Reprint)

This book, a detailed examination of the collapse of the Quebec Bridge in August 1907, compiles accounts from witnesses of the disaster. Compiled with interviews of survivors, analysis of structural plans and technical studies, this book delves into the structural engineering of the early 20th century. The author has studied the men involved, the decisions made, and the technology of the time to provide a full understanding of how the Quebec Bridge went from an ambitious beginning to a tragic engineering disaster, becoming one of the most significant structural engineering failures in history. The author argues that increased attention to standards and practices of the profession in the present day are significantly influenced by this disaster and thus bridge failures such as the Quebec Bridge are preventable.
