Add to basketA scarce report of the Royal Commission into the state of the City of London Livery Companies. Containing 'The Reports and Memoranda of the Commissioners' and 'The Oral Inquiry'. 'The Oral Enquiry' includes interviews with liverymen, charity commissioners, and representatives of educational establishments. 'Presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty'. In 1880, a Royal Commission was set up to investigate the alledged misuse of funds by the Livery Companies, and to assess their function in the modern state. The Commission took four years to prepare their findings, and no resultant action was taken. Nevertheless, the investigation encouraged the Companies to play a more active and useful role in the life of the country. In the original paper wraps. Externally, bumped, with faint marks. Slight loss to top and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound, although strained in places. Some gatherings have browning. There is light foxing throughout. A valuable primary source. Very Good.
