A scarce work that examines the cause and subsequent explosions that occurred during the Great New York City Fire of 1845, which destroyed hundreds of buildings in Lower Manhattan and killed approximately 30 people. Written by Benjamin Silliman (1779-1864), an American chemist, professor, and one of the founders of the American Journal of Science. A wonderful candidate for restoration or rebinding.
