MORRIS, Governeur [et al]. Report of the Commissioners Appointed by Joint Resolutions of the Honourable The Senate and Assembly of the State of New-York of the 13th and 15th of March, 1810, To explore the Route of an Inland Navigation, From Hudson's River to Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. New York. 1811. 38pp. Gathered signatures, stitched, as issued. Some dog-eared corners. Lightly tanned. Overall very good. One of several reports from the time period concerning the proposed canal from Lake Erie to the Hudson River. Shaw & Shoemaker list an Albany printing of this title of the same year, but not the present New York edition. Morris (1752-1816) was chairman of the Erie Canal Commission, though his input was considered less important than that of De Witt Clinton (1769-1828), then the mayor of New York City. Morris died before construction on the canal began (in 1817) and Clinton, as New York's governor, is chiefly credited with the success of the project.
