Report: Containing The Proceedings Of The Annual Session., Also Transactions Of The Auxiliary And Affiliated Societies — Dudley W. Adams. This volume compiles the historical record and proceedings of the Iowa State Horticultural Society, detailing officers and district representatives, secretary’s reports, and the seventh annual meeting held in Davenport in January 1873. It includes essays and discussions on orchard management, fruit culture across Iowa’s regions, pest control (codling moth, canker worm), small fruits including grapes, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, and strawberries, as well as forestry, hedging (osage and honey locust), timber culture, meteorology, and horticultural law. The text presents a snapshot of 19th-century agricultural science, practical farming advice, and organizational governance, with premium lists, committee reports, and the proceedings of meetings and conventions. It also contains annual crop data for 1872, fruit lists for general cultivation, and the ambition to promote timber planting and hedgerow development across the state.
