4to. 391pp. Purple cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Frontispiece, protected by tissue guard. Work on the geology of Iowa, written by renowned American geologist and medical doctor Charles A. White (see below). Magnificently illustrated with b/w full-page capioned pencil sketches of landscapes in Iowa. Age wear to binding, with staining to boards, fading to spine. Head and tail of spine slightly bumped and worn, with 1" closed tear alongside top of spine.Browning and foxing to endpapers, with very minor browning and only sporadic foxing throughout. Browning to plates, with water marks to bottom of plate pages. Overall good- condition. Charles Abiathar White (1826-1910): American geologist, paleontologist, and writer whose publications total 238 titles. Write, who was born at North Dighton, Mass, became the State geologist of Iowa in 1866 (a position he held for four years). He was professor of natural history in the State University of Iowa in 1867-1873. Between 1874 and 1892, Charles A. White worked as geologist and paleontologist of the United States Geological Survey. After 1895, he becamen associate in paleontology at the United States National Museum. (Source: Public Domain).
