Describes the survey for the course of a railroad through northwestern Georgia. The map (19x49 cm.) shows all or part of 10 counties in Georgia between the Chattahoochee River and the Tennessee state line near Chattanooga. This is a very important document in the history of Atlanta, Georgia, as the southern end of this line would be established in 1837 at a new town named Terminus, the name of which had changed to Atlanta in 1847. Marietta is shown on the map, though Terminus is not. The text details the siting of the line at the Chattahoochee River. This survey was conducted by Stephen H. Long. 25th Congress, 2d Session, Senate Doc. 57. Not in Thomson.
