About this Item
A very scarce work from the nineteenth century presenting the extensive notes and minute in relation to the select committee's discussion of Friendly Societies. Rebound, with the original paper wrap bound in. This very scarce work was ordered to be printed by The House of Commons, in July 1849. This volume features a report on the proceeding of the select committee in reference to the Friendly Societies Bill. Including the minutes of evidence. Friendly Societies refer to cooperative financial groups. This work preempts the Friendly Societies Act of 1875 which aimed to regulate these groups. The chair of this meeting was T. H. Sutton Sotheron, the conservative politician of the 19th century. The members present include: Mr Brotherton, Sir John Duckworth, Mr. Bonham Carter, Mr Henry Halford, and Mr. Henley. An fascinating work of British political and financial history, and the response of the select committee to these organisations. With a large folding plate to the centre of the volume. Rebound, in a full cloth binding. Externally smart, with minot shelfwear. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the odd spot. Several light creases to the extremities of several pages. The original paper wrap is bound into the volume. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 634C62
