297 x 233 mm. 4to. Pages 73-149. 6 figs., numerous tables, 1 lithographic plate. Dis-bound. William Shaw studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he became a Fellow in 1879. In that year he began his studies on hygrometric methods and instruments. As a result of this work, Shaw was appointed a member of the Meteorological Council in 1897. He became director of the Meteorological Office in 1905; under his administration the Meteorological Office was transformed through the introduction of a trained scientific staff that emphasized studies of the physics of the atmosphere.
