Twenty Parliamentary reports, tables (one folding), five large folding ordnance survey maps of Java (in the consecutive reports for 1907-1911), the first three and final five reports in plain title wrappers, those for 1897-1907 in printed blue wrappers, stab sewn, 24.4 x 15.5cm occasional toning and foxing (mainly affecting the verso and outer margins of the maps, more pronounced in that for 1909), a single library stamp (University of Oxford) to the title wrapper of all but three of the reports. A very good set. An unbroken run of reports over a lengthy period of marked development: the first including a brief report on the satisfactory response to the Batavia Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition (with a display of of dolls in local costume for presentation to the Queen of the Netherlands), through until the final much expanded report. Export yields of the two staple crops, sugar and coffee, more than quadrupled during the period. A lucrative period for the colonial powers and their allies.…
