Repositioning Musical Creativity in Higher Education: Leading Change toward a More Panoptic, Creative Future

Repositioning Musical Creativity in Higher Education: Leading Change toward a More Panoptic, Creative Future explores how centering creativity can enable today’s schools of music to keep up with the demands of a changing
cultural and musical landscape, and equip students with the versatility to meet the demands of the music marketplace. The author considers the nature of creativity as an essential human experience and examines existing epistemologies that address the person as a creative being, before exploring how this vital dimension of creativity intersects with social and cultural identities and how creativity can be centered within the music educational experience.

Sharing the personal stories of faculty, students, and administrators from various music disciplines, and drawing on the author’s experiences as a Jamaican American musician, scholar, and educator, this concise book provides a guide for music educators seeking to center individual creativity in their teaching.
