Repossessed

Nancy and Gary Upshaw are the kind of people who appear to live a charmed life. Beautiful home, their own business, humble, but high-profile, high maintenance nonetheless. But when the national economy sours and the couple lose everything, that charmed lifestyle heads south in a hurry. Having walked with God in their lives, Nancy and Gary at first can’t accept what is happening to them. Where is God when they need Him? Unable to face the shame, the humiliation, the couple goes on the run in search of a second chance. But as the money dwindles and it’s either living in their gas-guzzling vehicle or seeking a bed in a homeless shelter. They wonder if it can get worse. Gary is defeated and emotionally paralyzed, unable to get pull himself out of mire of failure, while Nancy sees what needs to happen, but feels she can’t act without Gary’s blessing. How these ordinary people rediscovered God and found the way to a new life is a roadmap to recovery. Nancy and Gary discover that bad things do happen to good people, but when God is with us, in the midst of the worse, we cannot fail.

John Shivers began writing for his hometown newspaper when he was only fourteen years old. As a lifelong wordsmith - some have called him a wordweaver - his byline has appeared in over forty Christian and secular publications, winning him seventeen professional awards. Hear My Cry, his first novel, was published in 2005, and a dream of forty-four years was realized. With that realization came the understanding that his books that impacted readers across denominational lines, answered a call to ministry he'd felt much earlier in his life. With the publication of Repossessed, he now has seven books in print. John and his wife, Elizabeth, along with Callum, their irascible but lovable Skye Terrier, live in his hometown of Calhoun, Georgia. They are members of the Plainville United Methodist Church, where John serves the congregation as Lay Leader. When the schedule permits, he loves to slip away to heaven on earth in Rabun County, Georgia, where he enjoys the music that his heart doesn't hear anywhere else. John has recently finished the first volume of a secular mystery series, and is also at work on another Christian fiction book that includes some of the same characters found in Repossessed
