Reprint in publisher's original printed wraps 18 x 26cm containing pp153-159 complete with 2 b/w photos by the author (Plates III and IV). Wraps neatly covered in adhesive clear plastic with small sticker to front. Library bookplate to inner front wrap stamped "withdrawn", and small ink stamps to interiors. Some light creasing. Hornell (1865-1949) recorded indigenous craft whilst sailing in Asian, Oceanic and African waters on traditional vessels such as junks and sampans - a field in which he became the principal authority. Here, Hornell discusses the contemporary locality, appearance, construction and use of the circular Iraqi coracle or "quffah", and its ancient lineage comparing it with the craft of India and Tibet, descriptions by Herodotus, and figures at Nineveh and Nimrud.
