Pp. xiv, 1-353, xv (index), 51 full page plates (black-and-white photos and maps), 64 text-figures; pp. iv, (1), 357-528, xxiv (index), 13 full page plates (5 in color of birds, 1 in color of petrography); v, 1-133, v (index), 7 full page or double page color geological maps (some folding). Publisher's original brick red one-half leather over marbled boards, green floral endpapers, 4to. A detailed review of the geology of north and central China. The second part of volume 1 contains a 26 page section on the zoology of north and central China by Blackwelder with attractive five color plates of birds. Also included in the same volume is a short section entitled 'Syllabary of Chinese Sounds' by F. Hirth which provides a key as to how to pronounce the Chinese names used in the English text. An atlas was also published for this set but it not included here. From the University of Kansas Library with circle blind-stamps on title page of each volume, small 'withdrawal' ink stamps on title page of each volume and ink stamps on the all page edges of all three volumes, label removed from rear endpapers of all three volumes, there is are external marks on the spine and few signs of use. Some rubbing to the leather on the spine, the flap to plate 6 in first volume is missing, repair to the folding joint of one other map; overall a very good copy with minimal library marks.
