Presents the fundamentals of psychological research methods and the relevance of behavioral research. Develops a model experiment within each chapter, using topics presented in those chapters as a mechanism for introducing new terms and concepts. It demonstrates how research elements combine in sequentially dependent ways and how they are integrally related.Thinking About Research sections pose questions about behavioral research to give readers a chance to think about resolutions, alternatives, implications, and other aspects about research that present an opportunity for creative thinking. These sections are designed to help readers reflect on current or timeless scholastic arguments, or approaches to conducting behavioral research. Spotlight on Research sections within each chapter highlight interesting behavioral research studies and address topics to engage readers on a personal level. Topics range from ethics to potential confounds in research to the biological determinants of human sexuality. Where appropriate, the book also discusses the unique way in which multiculturalism has changed the way we think about research, and its implications on policy, decision-making, and the growth of psychology and the social sciences. Presents the latest tools for research, such as computer search programs (i.e., Netscape and the Internet), and the more important changes in recording and analytical hardware. Also includes examples from the most current research. A valuable book for readers interested in research methods related to psychology or the social sciences.
