About this title

Synopsis

What happens when ancient stories are not simply read—but watched, questioned, and carried into the present?

In Reserved for Elijah, the stories of Genesis 16–22 unfold on the screen of an unusual theater. Max and Zara sit among empty seats, flickering lights, old machinery—and one chair marked RESERVED FOR ELIJAH.

As they watch the stories of Hagar, Ishmael, Abraham, Sarah, Lot, and Isaac, questions begin to follow them beyond the screen. What does it mean to trust a promise when nothing seems to happen? Why do people run away? When should they return? What does it mean to welcome a stranger? And how do you keep walking when you do not know what waits at the end of the road?

Through conversation, memory, humor, and recurring symbols—the lamp, the door, the empty chair—the ancient narrative becomes a living encounter with fear, faith, exile, belonging, promise, forgiveness, sacrifice, and hope.

Written for young readers without reducing the complexity of the biblical stories, Reserved for Elijah invites children, families, classrooms, and discussion groups to enter Genesis not simply looking for answers, but learning how to ask deeper questions.

The screen may go dark. The questions remain.
