Grade 2-4?These two books outline the basic principles of the digestive and respiratory systems. The texts are readable and informative, without technical terms or extraneous material. Stille covers anatomy, physiology, and major diseases, and offers health tips. Digestive devotes a chapter to Dr. Beaumont's groundbreaking research; a page to ulcers, including the recent discovery that most cases are caused by bacteria; and good tips on cleanliness and diet. Respiratory has a page on asthma; mentions tuberculosis and pneumonia; and gives great advice on how to prevent lung cancer and emphysema?"Don't smoke!" Good-quality, captioned, full-color photos and diagrams appear throughout both titles. Further reading, organizations, and Internet sites round out the presentations. These titles fill the gap between easy readers such as Paul Showers's What Happens to a Hamburger?
