About the Author

Carol E. Kasworm, Ed.D., is department head and professor in the Department of Adult and Community College Education at North Carolina State University. She has over 80 publications and presentations on adults in higher education, and has served in a number of administrative positions including Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at an adult-oriented institution. Her recent study, Adult Undergraduate Students: Patterns of Learning Involvement, was funded by the United States Department of Education and has received national awards from both the AAACE and NUCEA. Cheryl J. Polson, Ph.D., is a department head and professor in the Department of Foundations and Adult Education and assistant dean of the graduate school at Kansas State University. She has worked with adult learners in higher education for over 20 years that include serving as a director of an adult degree completion program. She has received numerous awards related to teaching, advising, publication, and professional service on behalf of adult learners. Her awards include the Outstanding Advisor Award given by NACADA and Contribution to the Literature Award from ACPA's Commission on Commuter and Adult Learners. Sarah Jane Fishback, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Foundations and Adult Education at Kansas State University. Her research has focused on adult learners in higher education. She has presented at numerous conferences to include ACPA, NASPA, AAACE, ACHE and the Perry Conference on the topic of adult learners in higher education. Her dissertation, the Cognitive Development of Adult Undergraduates, received a research award from ACPA's Commission on Commuter and Adult Learners.
