Restoring The Flame (Paperback)

Paperback. The Word of Faith movement has been the subject of sustained criticism for decades, and those critiques have not faded with time. Older concerns continue to influence contemporary evangelical analysis, academic discussion, and social media debate, especially around prosperity teaching, healing, confession, spiritual authority, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Restoring the Flame takes those criticisms seriously, not to repeat familiar arguments, but to examine them carefully within a broader biblical, historical, and pastoral framework. This book is not merely a defense of the Faith movement, nor is it simply a rebuttal to its critics. Its deeper purpose is to lead the reader back to the original mission of Christ and to the pattern of the early church established through Pentecost: a church grounded in Scripture, devoted to prayer, marked by holiness, filled with the Holy Spirit, and sent into the world as a witnessing community. By returning to that apostolic pattern, the book asks a more important question than whether later movements were right or wrong in every detail: is the church today still living in the power, purity, humility, and mission of the original flame?Drawing from Scripture, church history, theological reflection, and pastoral concern, Dr. Danny Hermanus traces the flame from Acts through later renewal movements, core Word of Faith emphases, evangelical critiques, doctrinal correction, discipleship, community life, witness, discernment, and generational transmission. The aim is neither a cold reaction nor uncritical enthusiasm, but a balanced and Christ-centered renewal in which spiritual hunger is joined to biblical testing, and expectancy is shaped by humility, obedience, and maturity.
