Retailing Management

Levy Retailing Management focuses on the broad spectrum of Canadian and international retailers, both large and small, that sell merchandise or services. The text uniquely examines key strategic issues with an emphasis on the financial considerations and store management issues that are particular to the Canadian experience. The Fourth Canadian Edition includes substantial new content on social media and mobile marketing to the multichannel discussion, a more in-depth treatment of the impact of technology on the retail communications mix, and a new chapter dedicated to information systems and supply chain management. As with previous editions, Retailing Management reflects the evolving nature of retailing, including up-to-date data, current and Canadian examples, and cutting edge information on trends in retailing.

Michael Levy, PhD, is the Charles Clarke Reynolds Professor of Marketing and Director of the Retail Supply Chain Institute at Babson College. He received his PhD in business administration from The Ohio State University and his undergraduate and MS degrees in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He taught at Southern Methodist University before joining the faculty as professor and chair of the marketing department at the University of Miami. Professor Levy has developed a strong stream of research in retailing, business logistics, financial retailing strategy, pricing, and sales management. He has published over 50 articles in leading marketing and logistics journals, including the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Marketing Research. He currently serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Logistics and Materials Management, ECR Journal, and European Business Review. He is coauthor of Retailing Management, 6e (2007), the best-selling college-level retailing text in the world. Professor Levy was co-editor of Journal of Retailing from 2001–2007. Professor Levy has worked in retailing and related disciplines throughout his professional life. Prior to his academic career, he worked for several retailers and a housewares distributor in Colorado. He has performed research projects with many retailers and retail technology firms, including Accenture, Federated Department Stores, Khimetrics, Mervyn’s, Neiman Marcus, ProfitLogic (Oracle), Zale Corporation, and numerous law firms. He co-chaired the 1993 Academy of Marketing Science conference and the 2006 Summer AMA conference.

Dea Watson has been a faculty member at Conestoga College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in Kitchener, Ontario, for 11 years. Dea holds an MBA in retailing from the Retail Institute at the University of Stirling, Scotland. Prior to her academic career, she had a variety of opportunities in Canadian retail over a 15 year span. She spent a significant amount of time delivering a national customer service training program and managed a variety of multi-million dollar soft goods departments for several major Canadian department stores. As a professor and program coordinator for business marketing programs at Conestoga College, she possesses a passion for the Retail Industry and a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. Dea coaches the college's Retail Case team for the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition, which consists of industry judges who determine the most viable, realistic business solutions to pre-determined real-world cases. A founding member of the charity Jessica's Footprint, Dea used her knowledge of marketing and sponsorship to raise money to fund paediatric-brain-cancer-research at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. With Dea's help, the charity has achieved an impressive $1.4 million in donations since its inception in 2005.
