Rethinking Scaling (Paperback)

We call ourselves knowledge workers, yet we operate in organizations that are hostile to deep thinking. We attempt to escape pyramids in the name of business agility by repainting them with curvy shapes and giving them fancy names. We shy away from direct communication, hiding inside boxes built from assumptions and ego. It is time to admit that much of the complexity we face is homemade. It is time to design scaled organizations that truly nurture deep thinking and bring the right people together to leverage collective organizational knowledge - for stronger alignment and faster, better decisions. It is time to rethink scaling.

For C-level executives, the book speaks directly to a growing leadership dilemma: As a C-level executive you face filtered or biased information from below while teams and management authorities demand more autonomy and faster decision-making. The natural reaction is to introduce KPIs - yet every KPI can be gamed or even harm your business. How do you lead effectively in such conditions? How do you overcome management-disconnect and siloed thinking? How do you grow in size without compromising business agility or delivery speed? Rethinking Scaling doesn't just raise these questions - it delivers practical and thought-provoking answers, proven by large companies from different industries. In introduces game-changing management concepts which resolve many of well-known management dilemmas of scaled organizations.
