Jean Stewart was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While growing up, her primary interests were playing sports and reading books. At eleven years old, she begain writing stories and journals, which developed into the habit of a lifetime. Later on, she attended West Chester University and earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degreees. Jean taught school and coached women's athletic teams for elevn years, then left that profession to concentrate on writing. In 1992, her first published novel, Return to Isis was nominated for a Lamba Literary Award.
