Full dark green morocco leather with gilt line panelled boards, raised banding and gilt lettering and decorations to spines. Full gilt page edges, marbled endpapers and gilt inner dentelles. A stunning set. Covers fine. A couple of neat pencil inscriptions to prelims of vol.1. Some occasional minor handling marks to pages, some minor light foxing to titles/prelims. Else pages overall very clean and tight. An excellent set. 3 half-titles. 1 sketch map (frontispiece to vol. 1 ). 303 pp. / 297 pp. / 320 pp. Very scarce. It was published in an edition of only 1,000 copies on 4 November 1878. It was never reprinted in its original three-volume form.
