About this Item
Bristol, 1772 Only edition. Accused of Helping a Notorious Forger Talbot, [William] [1718 or 1719-1774]. The Rev. Mr. Talbot's Narrative of the Whole of His Proceedings Relative to Jonathan Britain. Bristol: Printed and Sold by S. Farley, [1772]. 93, [1] pp. Octavo (8" x 5-1/2"). Stab-stitched pamphlet in recent plain stiff wrappers, untrimmed edges. Moderate toning, occasional faint dampstaining, light dampspotting to a few leaves, light soiling to title page. $150. * Only edition. As a prison visitor, Rev. Talbot became involved in the case of the forger Jonathan Britain, executed in 1772. Sympathetic to Britain, and apparently conned by him, he attempted to save him from the gallows and get him a new trial. His efforts on Britain's behalf brought him a great deal of criticism. The Rev. Mr. Talbot's Narrative is his reply to the critics. OCLC locates 1 copy in a North American law library (Harvard). English Short-Title Catalogue T44853. Seller Inventory # 68152
