A Review Of Unitarian Views: As Set Forth In A Published Report Of A Committee Of The Conference Of Western Unitarian Churches, Assembled In Louisville, May 1, 1854 by Henry Mandeville Denison examines a contested Unitarian document from the mid-19th century. The work offers a detailed, polemical critique of a report produced during the Louisville conference, focusing on doctrinal matters such as the Trinity, the humanity and deity of Christ, and the person of the Holy Spirit. Denison surveys historical creeds and council decisions (notably Nicea, Constantinople, Ephesus, and Chalcedon) to defend orthodox Christian positions against Unitarian reinterpretations. He argues that the traditional understanding of the Trinity and the atonement remains essential to the Christian faith, and he upholds the authority of Scripture and the historic creed as interpretive guides. The volume also adduces historical and theological arguments intended to counter claims of doctrinal reform, while presenting a broader critique of Unitarian tendencies in 19th-century American religion.
