Synopsis
James Vlam boating in the Med. witnesses the loss of a thermonuclear bomb from a crippled B-52 only a year after a similar historic incident off the coast of Spain in 1966. Fast forward to the mid-nineties . Vlam's attempt to sell his secret of the obsolete bomb with the help of his girlfriend, Fay Abrahams,a stunning woman working as a doctor in health clinic in Montreux,Switserland,opens Pandora's box that threatens the re-election of Bud Morgan,US president. When Doris and her husband Simon Empleberger, who own the clinic, learn of Vlam secret they hatch a diabolic plan to destroy their nemesis,Bud Morgan.Doris,who worked at the White House when Morgan was National Security Adviser realizes that finding the bomb would unlock a dark secret deeply hidden in Morgan's past. James Vlam ,the main character ,gets entangled in this web of political intrique.Chased by the CIA and MOssad,and near financial ruin Vlam sees his 'reward'recede into Never Never Land.Only one person can save him:Fay,his newly found love who falls in love with another man. Will she bring him wealth and happiness or is she part of the problem? That's the central question. A wide-ranging saga with a tightknit,fast-moving plot on an international scale. He currently has a private medical practice in Leyden and spends part of his time in his second home in Montreux,the City of Evil in this novel.

James Defares, jack-of-all-trades and workaholic - physician, biologist, mathematician and entrepreneur – has held a number of academic posts including the chair of mathematical biology ad Leyden University, visiting professor at Stanford and visiting lecturer at Harvard. He is the co-founder of Parmalux, now a big bio-pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands. He currently runs a private practice in Leyden, the Netherlands. Defares is the author of a number of non-fiction books. His first novel Superyacht was published in 2004. The Reward is his second thriller. As a physiologist and biophysicist he has developed a number of measuring techniques, one of which has found application in the physiological testing of astronauts at the NASA center in Albuquerque. As a songwriter he has produced two CD's which have been played on Dutch radio and television. Although living in the Netherlands he spends part of the year in Montreux, where he owns a second home.
