Rare exemplaire de l?édition bâloise des 5 traités de rhétorique de Georgius Trapezuntius, en Français Georges de Trébizonde (1396-1472), philosophe grec et secrétaire pontifical considéré comme l'un des principaux humanistes de la Renaissance italienne. Cette édition, composée en caractères italiques de grande élégance, est ornée de remarquables lettrine gravées. Trébizonde a commenté les ?uvres d'Aristote et a été l'un des premiers traducteurs de l'Almageste de Ptolémée. Il a étudié à Venise et à Padoue, où il a eu pour condisciple Francesco Filelfo, et a enseigné à Vicence. Ces traités offrent une synthèse approfondie des théories rhétoriques de l'Antiquité, en particulier celles d'Aristote, de Cicéron et de Quintilien. Trébizonde démontre une maîtrise exceptionnelle des sources classiques et une capacité à les restituer de manière limpide et didactique. Rare copy of the Basel edition of the 5 rhetorical treatises of Georgius Trapezuntius, in French Georges of Trebizond (1396-1472), Greek philosopher and pontifical secretary considered one of the main humanists of the Italian Renaissance. This edition, composed in italic characters of great elegance, is decorated with remarkable engraved initials. Trebizond commented on the works of Aristotle and was one of the first translators of Ptolemy's Almagest. He studied in Venice and Padua, where his classmate Francesco Filelfo, and taught in Vicenza.
