Rhymes for Small and Large (Paperback)

Rhymes for Small and Large is a charming collection of illustrated verse for young readers of all ages. Winner of a 2023 Purple Dragonfly Honorable Mention and third place in the 2024 Praiseworthy Awards, this beautifully presented book brings together poetry and art in a classic format that invites readers to linger, smile, and return again and again.

Inspired by the drawings and poems of nineteenth-century artist Paul Thumann, Tom Hindley has translated selected original Thumann poems and added his own lyrical pieces to create a distinctive treasury of rhythm, image, and imagination. The poems range from simple and charming to longer reflections that are educational, entertaining, and often amusing.

Taken from what is believed to be Thumann’s only book, Für Mutter und Kind (published around 1880), the collection pairs historic artwork with carefully arranged verse in a presentation that is itself a work of art. Read one poem at a time, or enjoy the full collection in a single sitting.

This book is ideal for families, teachers, librarians, and anyone who appreciates classic poetry, elegant illustration, and timeless charm.
