The Rhythm That Remained

The Rhythm That Remained is a deeply personal memoir about love, loss, ancestry, and the family stories that continue to shape us long after the people we love are gone.

After experiencing the devastating losses of her grandmother, mother, and uncle, three people who helped anchor her life, Rashida Jones-Aiken found herself searching for a way to make sense of grief. What began as family-history research became something far more meaningful. Through genealogy, memory, and unexpected discoveries in her family tree, she began uncovering connections that helped her understand not only where she came from, but also parts of herself she had never fully understood.

With honesty and reflection, Jones-Aiken explores the bonds between generations, the ache of losing the people who knew us best, and the surprising ways ancestry can restore a sense of identity, belonging, and purpose. The Rhythm That Remained is not simply a story about death. It is about what survives it: love, memory, legacy, faith, family, and the invisible rhythms passed from one generation to the next.

For readers navigating grief, exploring their ancestry, or searching for meaning in the stories they inherited, this memoir offers a moving reminder that some connections do not disappear; they remain.
