Returning home in 1959 to take control of the family ranch, Smart distinguishes himself in the livestock business, making his mark in the cattle industry of Hawai'i.

About the Authors

Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, Dr. Billy Bergin spent more than seven decades working in the ranching industry, first as a ranch hand and later as a veterinarian. He is the author of six books on the history of ranching in Hawaiʻi.

Dexter Keawe'ehu Vredenburg is a senior system engineer specializing in telecommunications and information systems with forty-five years of experience. His family has been with Parker Ranch since 1855 when his great-grandfather taught at Waimea School.
