1825; Hardcover. Second Edition, Corrected, with Additional Anecdotes of Thomson, Pope, etc. Introduction by the author, who dedicated this updated edition on August 16, 1825. Brown leather spine with simple gilt lettering and light brown marbled boards. Some significant chipping at the top of the spine as well as rubbing wear along its edges, otherwise this little book, just 3 5/8 inches x 6 inches; 196pp., is immaculate. The detailed fold-out street map of Richmond in 1825, which was engraved by George Frederick Cruchley, is in perfect condition. The ivoried laid paper is clean, smooth, and unmarked. There are no tears or signs of damp. The binding is sound and strong. Besides the map, the book includes 3 other engravings; The Pagoda in St. James Park, Richmond Palace, and Rosedale House. At the back is a 10-page Appendix of the Principal Residents and Professional Persons in Richmond, Ham and Petersham. This is a beautiful, joyful little history and guidebook by a man who clearly loves his surroundings. He has allowed us a peek at one of London's prettiest boroughs as it was almost 200 years ago. Operating through a retail outlet located at 200 Maine St. in Brunswick and through its on-line sales activities, Curtis Friends operates only with volunteers from the local community and sells only those books donated by its constituents. Curtis Friends has been in existence for several decades.
